Ticket Types: Pricing By Sections on Seating Charts

Updated over a week ago

Here are some reasons why you may need to create your seating chart with sections that vary by location:

  • Offer tiered pricing to maximize revenue – Assigning different prices based on seat location allows you to charge more for premium views while still offering affordable options elsewhere.

  • Reflect the layout and experience of your venue – Not all seats are equal; building a chart with accurate sections helps patrons choose the best option for their needs.

  • Track demand by section – Analyzing which sections sell fastest helps with future pricing strategies and seating arrangements.

πŸ‘ŸWalk Through

After accessing your event in Drafts or during initial production creation, you can set up Pricing by Sections on your seating chart. Access your chart under Show details, and click the Seating Chart tab (as displayed below).

The first change you will notice here is that the Price By Section toggle is no longer on the main page. We have moved this to inside the seating chart editor to reduce confusion & accidental enablement.

Under Sections, you will see a toggle for 'Seat-based pricing'. Toggle this on to assign ticket types to your seating chart.

Once you have made sections of your seating chart, select one. Then click Add Tier.

This button launches a modal. On this modal, you can choose which ticket types from your event you wish to apply to this section. You can choose 1 or all. The only requirement is that at least one Online type must be included in all sections.

Click on Add to assign the ticket types.

Click on Save Seating Chart when you are done assigning ticket types to all sections.

Click on Yes, Confirm.

πŸŽ“ Recap

When setting up your event in On The Stage (while it’s in Draft or during initial production creation), you can assign different ticket pricing by section on your seating chart. To do this, open the Seating Chart tab under Show Details. Then enable seat-based pricing in the Sections area. After creating sections on the map, use β€œAdd Tier” to assign one or more ticket types to each section. (One requirement: every section must include at least one Online ticket type. ) Finally, once the assignments are complete, save the seating chart and confirm the changes.

πŸš€ Best Practices

  1. πŸ“ Plan your sections first – Before assigning prices, map out how your seating sections will align with the stage/audience sightlines. It’s easier to define meaningful pricing tiers when sections are well thought out.

  2. πŸ’‘ Include an Online ticket type in all sections – Since the system requires that at least one Online ticket type be assigned to every section, ensure you have one ready (even if you primarily sell in-person) to avoid configuration errors.

  3. πŸ”„ Be consistent with ticket types – Use the same ticket types across sections when possible, to reduce confusion for buyers comparing seats and prices. But also allow for variation where view or amenities justify it.

  4. βœ… Save and confirm only when all sections are assigned – Make sure every section has its ticket types assigned, then save the chart and click confirm. Any missing assignments may lead to unexpected behavior or missed sales opportunities.
