Creating a Seating Chart With Prices That Vary By Location (Section Seating and Tables)

Updated this week

Here are some reasons why you may need to create your seating chart with sections that vary by location:

  • Offer tiered pricing to maximize revenue – Assigning different prices based on seat location allows you to charge more for premium views while still offering affordable options elsewhere.

  • Reflect the layout and experience of your venue – Not all seats are equal; building a chart with accurate sections helps patrons choose the best option for their needs.

  • Track demand by section – Analyzing which sections sell fastest helps with future pricing strategies and seating arrangements.

👟Walk Through

To create a seating chart with pricing that varies by location, make sure the radio button next to "Does ticket pricing vary by seat location?" below is toggled on and green.

🎭 Note: this must be in place before publishing.

When you click on sections, you will see the blue Add Tier button. You can add a tier name, as well as price.

You can also add tiered pricing to tables. Once you create the section and push create, the options to add tiers will appear.

To delete a table section from your seating chart, begin by right clicking on the table (brown circle) and click on Delete Table.

Make sure to then click Save Seating Chart in the top right corner of your chart to save your deleted changes.

🎓 Recap

This article details how to create a seating chart in On The Stage with varying ticket prices based on seat location, section, or table. When building your chart, toggling "Does ticket pricing vary by seat location?" enables pricing tiers. Once enabled, you can assign tier names and distinct price points per section or table, ensuring the chart reflects accurate pricing configurations. Don’t forget to click Save Seating Chart after any edits to retain updates.

🚀 Best Practices for Tiered Seating Charts

  1. 🧾 Enable location-based pricing at the start
Turn on the toggled option before adding sections or tables—once you’ve built the chart, you can’t enable it later.

  2. 🔢 Define clear tier names and pricing
Assign intuitive labels (e.g. Orchestra Premium, Balcony Value) and test that each tier reflects the correct price for patrons.

  3. 🏛️ Configure sections and tables separately
For table seating (like cabaret or pods), create tiers individually so capacity and pricing remain accurate.

  4. 💾 Always save after edits or deletions
Whether deleting a table or adjusting a section, use the Save Seating Chart button to ensure changes stick.

  5. 🧪 Preview and test customer flow
Walk through the ticket selection process on both desktop and mobile to confirm that seat selection and pricing display correctly.
