The One Car Challenge is a five-week pilot run by LA Metro in partnership with King's College London. The idea is simple: if your household has more than one car, park one of them for five weeks and use Metro instead — buses, trains, walking, biking, ride-share, whatever works for you.
You'll earn up to $120 a week for keeping your parked vehicle below 3 miles, with a total cap of $599 across the whole pilot.
Who can join
To join, you need to:
Live in Los Angeles County
Have two or more vehicles in your household
Be willing to park one of them for five weeks
You don't need to sell or get rid of the car — just leave it parked for the duration of the pilot.
How the five weeks work
You pick a vehicle to park. Each week, you report its odometer reading so we can see how far it's been driven. If it's stayed under 3 miles for the week, you earn that week's reward.
