On the OneLocal platform, it's easy to store more of your customers' details right in LocalContacts! You can do things like enter information about each customer's last day of visit, make notes, or create customer groups

The custom fields added in this example are:

  • A date field for "last visit" day

  • A text field for any additional information about the customer

  • A checkbox field for repeat visitors

  • A single-choice drop-down for the type of customer they are, in this case, the options are "Heating," "Plumbing," and "Electric."

Ready to Add Your Own Custom Fields?

Step 1: Navigate to Settings

Head over to your OneLocal dashboard and click into Settings. Here you will find the Contact Fields button - click on that

Step 2: Create a Custom Field

All your existing and future custom fields will be listed here. Let's create a custom field by clicking on Create Contact Field. There are multiple types of contact fields you can create:

  • Text: Allows you to enter any text information about your customers. This information is often unique to each client. Keep in mind that you cannot create filters within LocalContacts based on information in text fields.

  • Date: Allows you to choose dates (e.g., date of last visit, renewal date).

  • Single Choice: These choices will be populated from a predetermined list that you add. There is no limit on how many options you can add to the list, but each client can only have one item chosen in this field.

  • Checkbox: A box in your customer's details you can check or uncheck, functioning as a 'yes/no' or 'true/false' question. When setting this up, you will be asked if this should be checked or unchecked by default.

Step 3: Try Creating Your Own Custom Field

Consider what type of information you are adding and what type of field will be best suited.

Keep in mind that you can only filter your contacts based on Single Choice or Checkbox fields. Ensure you are using these field types if filtering contacts is a requirement

Step 4: Edit or Remove a Field

If you want to edit this field, click on the pencil icon. If you want to remove the field, click on the trash can icon

Custom Fields on Multi-location Accounts

If your business has more than one location using the OneLocal platform, here's how the custom fields work at the Parent account level and the Child account level:

Custom Field on Parent Account

  • If the custom fields are created on the Parent account, they will be visible and can be used on Child accounts.

Custom Field on Child Account

  • If the custom fields are created on the Child accounts, they will only be able to be used on contacts within that specific Child account

Now have fun on creating more custom fields in LocalContacts!
