After you have created courses, bulk-loaded them with students, and hand-scheduled the students with special circumstances, it is time to schedule students into class sections of the courses they are registered for. Scheduling options include the time frame of year, which group of students to schedule, and optional rules for how to place students into their classes.

Schedules > Develop > Schedule Students does the heavy lifting for you by placing students into class sections of courses balancing by the number of students. Let's take a look!

Step One: Select a radio button from the "Timeframe" box to schedule students for the entire year or for a specific term.

Step Two: Select a radio button from the "Students" box to choose the group of students to schedule.

  • By Grade: allows you to select a range of students by grade(s)

  • Selected Student(s): allows you to select a random student(s) to schedule

Step Three: Place a checkmark in the checkboxes for the criteria the scheduling tool should follow when placing students into class sections.

  • "Year Courses-Prefer same period all year": when scheduling sections of a yearlong course try to keep all sections in the same period all year

  • "Require Quarters of same course to be back to back": if a student is scheduled for more than one-quarter of a course schedule the sections in consecutive terms

  • "Require 4 Quarters of same course to be back to back and same period/teacher": if a student is scheduled for four quarters of a course schedule the sections in consecutive terms and in the same period and teacher

  • "Require 4 Quarters of same course to be back to back and same period": if a student is scheduled for four quarters of a course schedule the sections in consecutive terms and in the same period

  • "Require Trimesters of same course to be different terms": if a student is scheduled for more than one trimester of a course schedule the sections in different terms

  • "Save any existing Grade Data": preserve any already recorded grading information

  • "Balance by Genders": prefer to schedule an even number of boys and girls in each section

Step Four: Click the "Process" button to process your request and begin scheduling students into classes.

Step Five: Click the "OK" button to proceed with scheduling your students or click the "Cancel" button to return to the previous page in the "Are you sure you want to schedule students?" pop-up.

Fun Fact: Status messages will display below the "Process" button as the scheduling tool is working to keep you informed of its progress.

Step Six: Click the "Print" button to print the results of the scheduling process to obtain a hard copy of the results.
