Looking for a solution to help office staff and teachers identify students that are attending school virtually or are advanced learners or are taking the same classes as other students but on an alternative day? Using tags to differentiate students might just be the shortcut you are looking for! Rather than creating entirely new courses or alternative schedules to account for outlier students, tag individual students to streamline teacher gradebook and attendance access and improve student identification and communication.

Managing Tags

Tags are customizable labels that can be easily created for your school via the "Administrator Options" page in the district building of jmc Office. To start using the tags feature, simply provide a name for a tag and add it to the list. Once a tag is added to your list, you can associate it with a student on the "View Student Data" page.

  • Administrator Options: the "Manage Student Tags" link on the "Administrator Options" page provides the ability to customize student tags for your school and export or print the list of tags for future reference.

  • View Student Data: the "General" tab on the "View Student Data" page is the hub for information that pertains to an individual student, including a tag.

Utilizing tags in jmc Teacher

Tags in jmc Teacher are a handy way of narrowing the range of students displayed on your list view in the Scores gradebook and in Classroom Attendance. Customize your view to include all students in a course or to only include students that are tagged with a certain label to quickly access specific student groups when entering scores or taking attendance.

  • Assignment Scores: narrow the range of students listed in your gradebook by course and tag.

  • Enter Attendance: narrow the range of students by class and tag when taking attendance.

Identifying and communicating with tagged students

Using tags is an excellent method to streamline communication and generate reports for specific groups of students in jmc Office. You can send messages to primary contacts and students by tag via the Message Center and generate reports, including tagged students using the Student Lists feature.

  • Send Messages: selecting the "By Tag" option offers the flexibility to send messages to either all tagged students/contacts or to students/contacts with a specific tag.

  • Student Lists: in the Attendance module, the Student Lists feature empowers you to generate reports utilizing all student data in jmc, including tags. This feature allows you to narrow the range of students included in the report by specific tag, enabling you to drill down to the specific data you wish to see.
