How To: View the Incidents Priority / Status Guide

If you’re ever uncertain about how to categorize or prioritize your incident, or if you’re unclear on its current status, you can consult the Priority Guide and Incident Status Key located within the Status Indicator Box.

If you need help prioritizing the status of your incident, you can refer to the Priority Guide inside the Status Indicator Box in the Dispatch Center.

Incident Priority Guide

Priority selection from the Dispatch Dialer. Types will be auto-prioritized after selection by the system, giving you the ability to downgrade or upgrade on a case-by-case basis.


Incidents are organized into 4 priorities:

Low - P4

  • No immediate resolution is needed if there are other priorities.

  • It does not threaten anyone’s health or safety.

  • It does not threaten infrastructure use or performance.

Medium - P3

  • No immediate resolution is needed if there are higher priorities.

  • It does not threaten anyone’s health or safety.

  • Infrastructure use or performance may be involved so long it doesn’t affect a person’s safety.

High - P2

  • Immediate attention is needed by a designated Event Manager.

  • It may threaten a person’s health or safety if not immediately addressed.

Critical - P1

  • Immediate attention is required.

  • Someone’s health or safety is at risk in a possibly life-threatening situation.

  • Key infrastructure is at risk with the possibility of mass casualty if not immediately addressed.

  • Designated Event Directors should be notified.
