What is a Division? Department? What is the difference?

Updated over 4 months ago

Division

A Division is a high-level organizational structure used to group related areas of an event, manage access permissions, and facilitate custom reporting and on-site workflows. Divisions serve as broad categories that encompass multiple specialized teams, enabling efficient coordination and oversight across various aspects of event management.

  • For example, the "Public Safety" Division represents a comprehensive area that includes several distinct teams working together to ensure safety at the event.

Department

A Department refers to a specific, specialized team within a Division, focused on a particular function or expertise. Departments are the operational units that carry out targeted tasks under the umbrella of a Division.

  • For instance, within the "Public Safety" Division, the Police Department, Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services are individual Departments, each with its own trained personnel and responsibilities.

While a Division and a Department may occasionally share similar names (e.g., a "Public Safety" Division and a "Public Safety" Department), they are not interchangeable. The Division acts as a broader container for organizing and managing multiple Departments, while each Department operates as a distinct entity with a specific role within that Division.
