How do I make sense of my real-time load?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Every time your foot hits the ground, a pulse shows the load you experience:

  • Color of the pulse = your load zone (green = low, pink = high).

  • Big number = current load (average of 10 steps).

When taking a look at real-time load, runners can be subdivided into different categories:

  1. Runners with 'low loads' < 7G

  2. Runners with 'medium loads' 7G - 13G

  3. Runners with 'high loads' > 13G

ℹ️ High loads don’t automatically mean you’ll get injured — your body might handle them just fine. But if your pain scores rise above 3 or steadily increase, consider running in a lower load zone to reduce risk.

Load can change depending on factors like your running style, footwear, and surface. But every runner reacts differently — there’s no single “right” style or shoe for everyone. What lowers load for one runner may increase it for another.

With OnTracx, you can see how these parameters affect your personal load pattern, helping you manage training in an objective, evidence-based way to reduce injury risk.
