What is the Private Buying Experience?

With our Private Buying Experience, you can buy with confidence from a curated list of vehicles that are free from accidents, major damage, and major mechanical issues. The Private Buying Experience offers increased protection with buy-back guarantees – and if you need more time to decide, you can elect to purchase an extended guarantee.

How does the Buyback Guarantee work?

All Private Buying Experience purchases are subject to the Private Buying Experience Guarantee Fee, which is determined by your Performance Tier on OPENLANE.

  • The Guarantee is $95 for the Standard & Premium Performance Tiers

  • The Guarantee Fee is no charge/free for the Elite Performance Tier

Are there any limitations on or requirements for the vehicle to be returned?

There are requirements based on the vehicle’s valuation, title possession, and the time of return.

  • Return Time Frame for Private Buying Experience Vehicles:

    • Five (5) calendar days from the date of purchase or seven (7) calendar days from date of delivery if the customer utilized OPENLANE Transport.

    • If a Buyer purchased the Extended Guarantee, they will have

      • fourteen (14) days from date of purchase to initiate a return OR

      • fourteen (14) days from the delivery date if they purchase OPENLANE Transport

  • Valuation Requirements: The purchase price must not exceed 110% of Black Book average at time of sale.

  • Title Requirements: If you already received the title, we will need the title returned to OPENLANE before we can finalize the return.

What happens if I return a vehicle?

If all requirements are met, OPENLANE will buy back the unit from you and reimburse you for the purchase price, buy fee and transport (if you utilized OPENLANE Transport).

Once the return application is complete, an inspector will come to your dealership to inspect the vehicle and relaunch it from your lot so we can get it moved quickly. If we cannot get it sold and moved in 14 days, then we’ll initiate transport to remove it from your lot.
