My Orion Is Stuck In Needs Water Mode

Why a newly filled Orion asks for water, and the four steps that clear it.

This is common in the first week and it is not a fault. Air gets trapped in a newly filled system, and the system asks for water until the air clears. These steps clear it.

The usual causes are air bubbles in the lines, a hose that is not fully seated, or not enough water in the Control Tower.

Step 1: Is the hose fully connected?

  • Unplug the hose using the buttons on the sides

  • When plugging it back in, do not press the buttons. Those are for unplugging, not for securing it

  • Push the hose in firmly until you hear two audible clicks, one for each side

  • Give the hose a gentle pull to confirm it is secure

Step 2: Turn on Water Fill Mode

  1. Open the Orion app

  2. Tap the name of your Orion above the power button

  3. Scroll down and select Enter Water Fill Mode

This lets the system circulate water and push air out of the lines.

Step 3: Clear trapped air

This is safe to do. Moving the tower is the fastest way to shift an air pocket.

  • Gently shake the Control Tower

  • While doing this, lean it slightly forward and to the left

Step 4: Refill more slowly

If it is still stuck, start the fill again and go slower.

  1. Empty the Control Tower

  2. Refill with distilled water, 2 cups at a time

  3. Wait a few minutes between pours so the water can circulate

Use distilled water only. Tap and filtered water leave mineral deposits that affect performance over time.

Fill only to the bottom of the funnel. Overfilling causes its own problems.

How do I stop this happening again?

You do not need to monitor it. Orion tells you in the app when water is low, and the Control Tower light pulses white.

If you want to glance at the funnel when you change your sheets, that is more than enough.

Still stuck?

Contact Orion Support and tell us which steps you have tried and what the app is showing. We would rather sort this out tonight than have you sleep on a system that is not running.
