Draining and Moving Your Orion

When your Orion needs draining, how to do it for a temporary move, and how to prepare for long term storage.

Do I need to drain my Orion?

Not for normal use. Orion does not need regular draining or water changes.

Draining is only necessary when the system will be stored or transported a long distance.

How do I drain it for a temporary move?

Moving to another room, or across town:

  1. Power the system off in the app and unplug the Control Tower

  2. Disconnect the hose by pressing the release buttons on both sides at the same time and pulling gently

  3. Unplug the two USB-C sensor cables

  4. Carefully tip the Control Tower over a bathtub or sink to drain the water from the top portion of the tower

Some water will remain inside, and that is fine. It does not need to be completely empty for a temporary move.

Do I need to drain the Smart Cover?

No, not for a temporary move. The valves close when you disconnect the hose, so you may see a few drops and nothing more.

Fold or roll the cover without sharply kinking the hose tail.

How do I prepare for long term storage or shipping?

If the system is going into storage or travelling a long distance, the Smart Cover needs to be fully drained too.

Contact Orion Support to request a drain tool and the full instructions. The drain tool is not included with your system, and we send it out on request.

How do I move the Control Tower?

Transport it upright, and store it somewhere dry with a stable temperature.

How do I set it back up?

  1. Position the Control Tower and reconnect the hose, pushing until you hear two audible clicks

  2. Reconnect both USB-C sensor cables

  3. Refill with distilled water and prime. See Filling and Priming Your Orion System

  4. Add a cleaning tablet, since the system has been drained and refilled

If water is not draining as expected, stop and contact Orion Support with a photo of your setup before continuing.
