What does it mean when my circuit breaker keeps tripping?

Updated this week

A repeatedly tripping breaker signals one of these issues:

1. Circuit overload (most common)

  • Too many devices on one circuit

  • Major appliance exceeds circuit capacity

  • Solution: Redistribute devices or add dedicated circuit

2. Short circuit

  • Damaged wire touching another wire or metal

  • Faulty appliance creating connection

  • Solution: Professional diagnosis and repair required

3. Ground fault

  • Damaged wire contacting ground

  • Water intrusion in electrical system

  • Solution: Immediate professional service needed

4. Failing breaker

  • Breaker worn out (common in older panels)

  • Solution: Breaker replacement

Don't ignore repeated tripping—it's a fire safety issue. Schedule service after the second trip on the same breaker.
