Team Standings

Updated over 2 months ago

Full admins, schedulers, and commissioners (with access) can configure custom tiebreakers and ranking criteria at season or grouping levels to display the current competitive position for all teams in a group. As games are scored through the season standings will update so all team members can view where their team ranks against others.

Configuring Seasonal Standings Tables & Columns

1. On the navigation, select Schedules, then click on the Season tab and choose your competition/ season using the dropdown menus.

2. Click on the Results tab, then click the edit button at the season level and select Standings.

  • Note: Standings can also be set at the grouping levels by clicking on the edit button at the respective level. If rankings are configured at the grouping level, the configurations set at that level will override any settings inherited from the grouping or season above it.

Tiebreaker Options Overview

Total Points

  • Ranks teams based on the total number of points to date during the season.

  • Always selected by default, and is based on the system default of 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and zero points for a loss.

Most Wins

  • Ranks teams based on the total number of wins to date during the season.

Least Losses

  • Ranks teams based on the least number of losses to date during the season

Head to Head

  • When two or more teams are ranked equally through all preceding tiebreakers, the system will then additionally re-run the same preceding criteria again, for just those teams, and only for the games they have faced each other to date for the season.

  • If still tied, then any additional tiebreakers following Head to Head are then included to continue trying to separate those teams.

  • If tied teams have not played the same number of games, head-to-head will be skipped, and the system will move on to the next tiebreaker.

Goal Differential

  • The total value of goals a team has scored, minus the number of goals that have been scored against them, during the season.

Most Goals Scored

  • Ranks teams based on the total number of goals they have scored to date for the season.

Most Goals Scored - Away

  • Ranks teams based on the total number of goals they have scored while being classified as the ‘Away’ team to date during the season.

Least Goals Conceded

  • Ranks teams based on the fewest number of goals scored against them to date during the season.

Least Goals Conceded - Home

  • Ranks teams based on the fewest number of goals scored against them while being classified as the ‘Home’ team to date during the season.

5. You can re-order seasonal ranking options by dragging and dropping them to change the criteria priority sequence.

6. Once complete, click Save. As ranking and tie-breaking criteria are set, the system will calculate division/grouping standings based on these settings in priority order. This order can be modified anytime during the season, and the standings will be recalculated.

Visibility of Standings

The visibility of the standings table will depend on a few factors, including having game schedules viewable to team members and some system triggers. Standings can also be hidden from Team Pages at the entire season or grouping levels to allow flexibility where scores might not be recorded for the season or in scenarios where results aren’t displayed for certain groups.

Calculate Seasonal Ranking Order for the First Time

There are two ways to get team standings to calculate for a season:

  1. Modifying or reordering the tiebreaker options will trigger the system to begin calculating rankings for teams.

  2. Once a score has been submitted for any game in a group, standings will begin to be calculated based on the seasonal ranking order. This must be done before the standings are calculated for existing teams with game scores.

Viewing Standings on Team Pages

Team members can view standings by visiting the Team Page. As games are scored, the teams in the group will be ranked by the system based on the seasonal ranking order criteria. A breakdown of the column headers in the rankings table can be found in the Seasonal Standings Column Option Overview.
