How Do I Set or Change the Layout Template for a Page?

Page templates control the layout of your site pages. Things like how many columns appear, where your header and footer sit, & how content sections are arranged. You can set or change a template at any time, & the update will go live as soon as you save.

Some features outlined in this article may not be visible to your organization. These Layout options are part of a gradual rollout currently underway for existing organizations.

Before you Start

Your site may use one of two types of layouts:

  • Layout Templates are customizable and editable layout containers for your website. If your site has been set up or redesigned recently, this is what you are using.

  • Fixed Layouts are static designs. If your site is still on a fixed layout, contact OTTO SPORT to learn about the new customizable layouts.

Note: For sites using Layout Templates, the option to edit a page's layout only appears when that page is rendering using a layout template. If you do not see the Edit Layout option on a page in the Admin Menu, that page is still using a fixed layout.

Setting Default Templates

This is the recommended way to manage templates across multiple pages on your site at once.

  1. On the Homepage, select Design Templates in the Website CMS section.

  2. Under the Default Template heading, choose a template from the dropdown list. The options in the list will show any templates your team has created.

  3. Click Save Default Templates. The change goes live immediately.

Tip: A default template is applied to all Site Map pages automatically. You only need to make a change here if you want a specific page to look different from the rest.

Setting a Template from the Site Map

  1. On the Homepage, scroll down to the Website CMS section and select Site Map.

2. Find the page you wish to update. Next, hover over the title and select Edit Page Settings.

3. Click Design Templates.

4. Choose a template from the dropdown list.

Tip: Templates can also be applied to subpages or child pages if the Apply to all Sub Pages box is checked. I.e., since I select the ‘About Us’ page to edit, I can apply a template to the subpages below it: Board of Directors, Coaching Staff, Community, etc.

5. Click Save. The change goes live immediately.

Setting a Template on an Individual Page

You can also change a page's template if you need a different page layout.

  1. Using the Site Map, find the page you wish to update. Next, hover over the title and select Edit Page Settings.

  2. Next, select Design Template and choose the template you want to apply.

  3. Click Save. The change goes live immediately.

Something Looks Off After Saving?

  • Content may appear at the bottom of the page. When the layout changes, content that was placed in a specific section may not know where to go in the new template. This is called Orphaned Content. You can drag it into the correct section from the page editor. See: Why is content showing up at the bottom of my page?

  • Your menu may not appear. If you switched a page to a custom layout, the navigation menu does not carry over automatically. See: How do I create a custom layout for a page? For steps on adding it back.

Need a Different Layout Just for One Page?

If none of the available templates fit what you need for a specific page, you can create a custom layout for that page. This gives you full control over the row and column structure without affecting any other pages.
