Make sure you've followed the below guidelines to ensure best performance when using OMS: Interprofessional scenarios. You can refer to this list if something is not working as you expect it to.

Computer Setup:

  • Make sure your laptop is plugged in

  • Confirm you have a stable internet connection of over 5 mbps (use a speed test if needed)

  • Make sure you aren’t running any special sound capture or sound synthesizer programs, like https://www.voicemod.net/

  • Plug in your VR or audio headset before launching

  • Do not try to use Bluetooth and other wireless headsets as these are not recommended

  • Confirm permissions for OMS to use Microphone if asked by your operating system

  • If your microphone doesn’t seem to be picking up your voice for others to hear, click on the Click here if microphone not working button and try speaking to confirm whether there has been any change. Then try clicking on other microphone options and speaking to try to confirm audio

  • If it’s difficult to hear anything, in addition to increasing general volume, move closer to what you’re listening to. There is location based sound. For example, if the patient is quiet, you can move closer to increase volume like in real life.

Scenario Setup:

  • Make sure everyone is in the pre-brief room before you launch the scenario. You must all enter the scenario together

  • Run a pre-briefing in the virtual classroom to establish expectations, address concerns and answer questions

  • Be patient while loading from classroom to the scenario; this process can take about 30 seconds

  • Don’t click out of OMS while it is loading (i.e. don’t try to do something else while waiting for OMS to load)

  • If you are an Observer and you are not speaking or should remain invisible, avoid toggling the mic or visibility unnecessarily

  • Don’t try walking through walls. We have put up barriers but in some cases you’ll be successful and will not be able to return to the room. Just don’t do it!

  • If you’re not sure if you’re muted, you can click the M on keyboard if on screen or the B on Oculus controller if playing in VR to turn the microphone on and off. You’ll also see an indicator: red if your microphone turned off and green if your microphone turned on

  • If you’re not sure if you’re visible, you can click the N on keyboard if on screen or the Y on Oculus controller if playing in VR to turn visibility on and off. You’ll also see an indicator: red if your visibility is turned off and green if your visibility is turned on
