Most government-issued documents have lamination on them to protect them from light damage, water damage, marks and to make them more resistant to bending or cracking.

While capturing an image of the document with your smartphone or tablet device, the light around you will interact with the lamination and create glare when the light bounces off the lamination. Glare prevents the PALIDIN WebID from authenticating your document correctly.

WebID is designed to detect low-quality document images and prompt you to capture a new image. If the system tells you the image has glare, follow these steps to prevent it:

During daytime:

  • Allow natural sunlight to come into the space by opening windows, curtains, shutters, etc.

  • Turn off or dim the lights in the space so there is less light to reflect off the lamination in the document

  • A combination of dimmed light + natural sunlight is usually your best choice

  • If the lights in the space cannot be dimmed, try placing the document below the light source in the space then placing your body over the document to block the light from directly hitting the document while keeping the lighting in the general space.

During nighttime:

  • Turn on all lights in the space

  • Place the document below the light source in the space then place your body over the document to block the light from directly hitting the document while keeping the lighting around the document
