Events mode turns your PamPam map into a live event calendar. Instead of a freeform list, your map items are automatically grouped by date and sorted chronologically. Past events disappear on their own, so your map always shows what's coming up — without any manual cleanup. It's ideal for city event guides, festival programs, conference schedules, or any map where time matters.
Note:
Events mode is available
The date range filter affects the panel list only — it does not hide or show pins on the map.
This is helpful when:
You're building an event guide and want visitors to browse by date
You run recurring listings (markets, concerts, screenings) and need past items to disappear automatically
You want to let users filter to a specific weekend or date range
Your map has many items and date-based grouping makes it easier to navigate than a flat list
How to enable Events mode
Open your map in the editor and click the Settings icon (gear icon) in the toolbar.
Under the "Panel" tab, select "Events" from the layout options.
Click the × to close Settings. Your map panel now shows items grouped by date.
Note: Switching to Events mode hides the manual section controls (add section, collapse sections, section stickers). The list order is controlled by date, not drag-and-drop.
How the panel is organized
Once Events mode is on, your panel list is structured like this:
Date sections — items are grouped under their start date (e.g. "Jul 1 · Thursday", "Jul 2 · Friday")
Multi-day events — an event with a date range (e.g. July 1–14) appears under each day it spans that falls within the current view
No date — items without any date set are grouped together at the bottom of the list under "No date" and are never treated as past
How to use the date range filter
In Events mode, the normal "Search map" text box is replaced by a date range filter at the top of the panel.
Default (empty): all upcoming and current events are shown automatically.
To filter by date:
Click the date field (it shows "From — To" when empty).
A date picker opens. Select a From date, a To date, or both.
From only — shows events on or after that day
To only — shows events on or before that day
Both — shows events that overlap the selected range
Note: the filter uses dates only — there's no time-of-day selection here.
The panel list updates immediately. The filter field shows your selection, e.g.
June 5orJune 5 — June 12.To clear the filter, click the × next to the date field. All upcoming events reappear.
Note: The date range filter affects the panel list only. Pins on the map are not hidden or shown based on the date filter.
How field filters work alongside the date filter
If your map has custom fields set up (like category, neighborhood, or price), the "Filter" button still appears next to the date filter in Events mode.
Field filters work exactly the same as in Classic mode — click "Filter" to open them and select values to narrow the list
Unlike the date filter, field filters apply to both the panel list and the map pins
You can combine a date range and field filters at the same time
There is no text search in Events mode.
Past events — how auto-hide works
In Events mode, items with a past start date are automatically hidden from both the panel list and the map. You don't need to delete or archive them.
The rules:
An event is considered "past" the moment its start date and time is before right now
Example: an event starting today at 6:00 PM is still visible at 10:00 AM that same day
Items without a date are never treated as past — they stay visible under "No date"
This behavior is automatic — there's no toggle to turn it on or off
Note: In Classic mode (and other panel layouts), past events remain visible in the list as usual.
How to prepare your data for Events mode
Setting dates on items
Each item needs a Date field set for it to appear in a dated section.
Open an item in the editor.
Find the Date field and set a start date (and optionally an end date and time).
Items without a date set will appear under "No date."
Syncing dates from Google Sheets and spreadsheets:
If you use Google Sheets sync:
In your sync settings, map a date column from your sheet to the Date field in PamPam.
Dates are normalized automatically on sync into a consistent format.
Any date updates in your sheet will reflect on the map after the next sync.
Dates in your sheet and spreadsheet should be in ISO format like this:
Single date: 2024-06-13T20:00
Range: 2027-07-01 - 2027-07-02
Range Including time: 2027-08-01T12:00 - 2027-08-02T18:00
Calendar-style map pins (display type)
In Events mode, map pins can display as calendar-style icons showing the date.
This requires the item's display type to be set to "Event"
Items with a date but display type set to "Standard" may still appear in the dated panel list, but will show a standard pin on the map instead of a calendar pin
FAQ
Why don't I see an event in the list?
A few things to check:
The event's start date has already passed — past events are automatically hidden in Events mode
A date range filter is active and the event falls outside that range — clear the filter to check
A field filter is active and the event doesn't match — check and clear your filters
The item is hidden on your profile settings
The item doesn't have a date set — it will appear under "No date" instead of a date section
Why is my event in the panel list but not showing a calendar pin on the map?
Check the item's display type. Calendar-style pins only appear when the display type is set to "Event". If it's set to "Standard," the item shows a regular pin even if it has a date.
Does the date filter hide pins on the map?
No. The date range filter in the toolbar affects the panel list only. To hide or show pins based on filters, use the field filters (the "Filter" button) — those apply to both the list and the map.
Do past events come back if I switch to Classic mode?
Yes. The auto-hide behavior is specific to Events mode. In Classic mode, all items with past dates remain visible in the list and on the map.
Can visitors filter by date too?
Yes. The date range filter is visible to anyone viewing your published map in Events mode — it's not just for editors.
