My breast pump parts have changed their color

Updated over a year ago

It's not uncommon for breast pump parts to show a color variation, changing to yellow, orange, or pink, especially after being cleaned in the dishwasher. This transformation may come as a surprise, but rest assured that it has no impact on the safety or performance of the parts of the pump.

Here are a few other reasons for discoloration:

  • Some foods, such as tomato sauce, contain pigments that can dissolve in silicone, giving the part a tint.

  • Residues from previous wash cycles can also contribute to discoloration.

  • Certain chemical agents in cleaning products can interact with silicone, altering its color.

  • Limescale build-up from hard water can affect the color of parts.

  • Direct sunlight can also play a role in changing the color of parts.

Discoloration of breast pump parts should in no way affect their performance or safety. Dyes that can mix with grease and be absorbed by silicone do not compromise the integrity of the product.

You can therefore use your breast pump parts safely, even if discoloration occurs. Discoloration is mainly cosmetic and should not be a cause for concern.
