Mobile Apps

Pinpoint Works offers two types of mobile apps that will work on your mobile devices, including phones and tablets:

Native Mobile Apps

The native mobile app that is downloaded from the app stores can be used offline.

Please read the instructions below for directions on using the native apps offline.

General Information

Our native mobile apps are available for iPhone and iPad on the Apple App Store and for Android phones and tablets on the Google Play Store.

As the native apps use a separate code, their look, feel, and functionality differ from our main web app. Although not all features from the web app are available on the native apps, you can work offline when the internet is unavailable.

There is a limit of 3 devices that can be used with one email to log in to the Web and Mobile Apps. If this number is exceeded, one of the three devices will be automatically logged out, and the user will be allowed to log in on the new device

Here are some tips for the best performance of native mobile apps:

Initial Download & Sync

Initial download and sync should be done over a strong connection which may take up to 15 minutes depending on size of the site plan or general arrangement, number of points and amount of media files that have been added to the site. It is recommended to let one site sync at a time and without the screen going to "sleep".

Media Files

Add photos and videos to points on the work list by uploading them from the device's gallery or taking them directly within the app. Photos and videos added on the mobile apps are automatically compressed to save bandwidth.

Within the Settings (bottom of the left side menu), there is an option to choose to save image files taken within the app to the device's gallery or not. By default, it will not be enabled, and images will not be saved to the device's gallery. This setting can be changed at any time.

Offline Functionality

There are two options for working offline on the native mobile apps. In both cases, sites must be fully synced before disconnecting from the internet. Only then you can swap between work lists sites when offline.

Option 1: No internet access. If you have no access to the internet, you can work offline as normal and sync when reconnecting. Any points you change will not be synced with the web app until reconnecting to the internet and syncing the mobile app manually.

Option 2: Choose to work offline. There is also a Settings option (bottom of the left side menu) which allows you to disconnect the Pinpoint Works app from the internet while the rest of the device remains online. This allows you to work offline, saving photos and videos quickly and syncing when you have access to fast internet at a later time once the offline setting is disabled. When offline, a message will appear next to the sync information on the work list page to note if you're offline.

General Tips for Working Offline

  • For the best syncing experience, it's best to have the app either fully online with a decent internet connection or fully offline when creating points. Otherwise, intermittent or spotty internet can cause inconsistent syncing.

  • When working offline, disconnect the internet (Wifi and Data) through the mobile device's settings, or use the app's Offline Mode which can be enabled/disabled through the app Settings page. (The app's Offline Mode allows the rest of your phone to stay connected to the internet.)

  • When you're ready to sync, disable the Offline Mode or reconnect to the internet.

  • When your mobile device is back online, tap the sync icon and let the offline points sync to the server before adding more points or making other changes.

  • It's important to sync points on a good Wifi connection where possible.

  • Depending on the number of photos, points, and internet speed, the syncing process could take several minutes. A number count will appear next to the sync button indicating the number of points remaining.

  • If you have points which have not synced, ensure your app is updated and try syncing again. If this does not work, logout and login again, then try to sync the app again. (Unsynced points will be saved when logging out as long as the same username is used to login again.)

Push Notifications

You will receive a push notification on your mobile app if:

  • You have been @mentioned as a user in the description box, comment or 'rich text' custom field. Android example below:

  • You have been assigned to a new or an existing point. iOS example below:

You will be redirected to the corresponding point by tapping on the push notification.

You will not receive push notifications if you are working in the offline mode or receive push notifications you missed while offline when back online.

Enabling Push Notifications

iOS Devices

Go to your device Settings → Notifications → Select Pinpoint Works → Enable notification type.

Android Devices

Go to your device Settings → Notifications & Control Centre → App Notifications → Select Pinpoint Works → Toggle On the notifications.

Troubleshooting

If you experience problems with the mobile app, ensure you have the most recent version from the app store, then logout and back in again. If this does not resolve the issue, please reinstall the app and sync over a strong internet connection.

Please contact us if you’re still experiencing issues after taking these steps.

Web App

Our main mobile app mirrors the web app and can be accessed directly from the browser on your mobile device. See our list of recommended browsers here. (Internet Explorer is not supported.)

You can choose to save this to the home screen of your device with the following steps.

Chrome: navigate to app.pinpointworks.com, tap the menu icon in the top right, tap 'Add to Home screen', then tap 'Add':

Safari: navigate to app.pinpointworks.com, tap the options icon in the middle of the bottom menu, tap 'Add to Home Screen', then tap 'Add':

The web app on mobile looks and feels similar to the web app on desktop since it uses the same code base. Because of this, syncing is more reliable and more features are available such as the Site Settings, Dashboard and Overview table. However, offline functionality is not available as the web app.
