How to Manage Group Admins

Step by step guide to adding, promoting, changing the role of, and removing a Group Admin in PLAI, without affecting their membership.

A Group Admin has elevated access to manage one specific Group, separate from being a club-level admin and separate from being a member of the Group itself. Someone can be a Group Admin without being a member, a member without being a Group Admin, or both at once.

Add a Group Admin

  1. On the Group's detail screen, tap the menu in the top right. A bottom sheet slides up with, in order: Open Group Chat, Manage Group Admins, Export Group Members, Edit Group, Delete Group.

  2. Tap Manage Group Admins. The Group Admins screen lists current admins with their status badges.

  3. Tap + Add Group Admin.

  4. Search for and select the member(s) you want to add. Each selection appears as a photo chip at the top with a red × to deselect, and a live count.

  5. Tap Add Group Admin.

You're returned to the Group Detail screen, a toast confirms "Group Admin added successfully," and the new admin(s) appear in the Group Admins chip row immediately.

Promote an existing member directly

If you're already looking at the member list, you don't need to go through Manage Group Admins:

  1. Tap the menu on the member's row. A popover shows Make Group Admin (shield icon) and Remove Member (red trash icon).

  2. Tap Make Group Admin.

  3. A confirmation modal appears: "Make Member Group Admin — Are you sure you want to make this member a Group Admin?" Tap Make Group Admin to confirm.

The member appears in the Group Admins chip row immediately and stays in the member list too. This option won't appear for members who are already Group Admins.

Change a Group Admin's role

  1. On the Group Admins screen, tap the pencil icon on the admin's row. The Assign Group Admin Role sheet slides up with their photo, name, and role chips: Head Coach, Coach, Assistant Coach, Volunteer, Team Manager, Referee, Committee Member, Safeguarding Officer.

  2. Tap a different chip to select it. Only one role can be selected at a time.

  3. Tap Change Role.

Note: Role labels are for display only. Every Group Admin has the same access regardless of their role label.

Remove Group Admin access

  1. On the Group Admins screen, tap the red trash icon on the admin's row.

  2. Confirm the removal. If this is the last remaining Group Admin, you'll see an extra warning: "This is the last group admin. Are you sure you want to remove them? The group will have no admins."

Important: Removing Group Admin access only revokes that access. The member remains a full member of the Group and club, nothing else about them changes.

FAQ

Do I need to remove someone as a member to remove their Group Admin access?

No, these are entirely separate actions. Removing Group Admin access never touches their group or club membership.

Can a Group have zero Group Admins?

Yes. PLAI warns you before you remove the last one, but you can still confirm and proceed.

Does someone need to already be a member to become a Group Admin?

No. You can assign someone as a Group Admin even if they're not currently a member of that Group.
