Does Plasma One charge FX fees?

What Plasma One charges on foreign-currency card spend, by tier.

No FX fee is charged on Platinum card spend — your transaction converts at the Visa exchange rate, with nothing added. This applies for as long as you're on the Platinum tier. Lite and Core are unchanged.

What you pay on Platinum

When you spend in a currency different from your account currency on a Platinum card, you pay the Visa exchange rate for that transaction and nothing on top. There is no Plasma FX markup and no FX fee of any kind.

Platinum is a 100,000 XPL lock, and zero FX applies for as long as you're on the Platinum tier.

Refunds convert at Visa’s refund rate, so a refund can differ slightly from your original purchase even though no Plasma fee is charged. See “Why is my refund different from my purchase?” below.

What you pay on Lite and Core

Lite and Core are unchanged. Both pay a Plasma FX markup on top of the Visa exchange rate, and both still pay the Visa FX fee.

  • Lite — 1% Plasma FX markup, plus the Visa FX fee.

  • Core — 0.5% Plasma FX markup, plus the Visa FX fee.

  • Platinum — 0% Plasma FX markup, and no FX fee is charged.

Why is my refund different from my purchase?

When a merchant refunds a foreign-currency purchase, Visa converts the refund at its own refund rate. Visa uses separate rates for purchases and refunds, so the amount returned to your Cash balance can be slightly lower or higher than the amount you originally paid.

This is not a Plasma fee. Plasma does not add any fee or markup to refunds, and on Platinum no Plasma FX surcharge applies to either the purchase or the refund. The Visa network rate is not something we can change.

The difference can also appear on currencies pegged to the USD, such as AED. The refund rate can be around 1% less favourable than the purchase rate, which is about $10 on a $1,000 refund.

ATM withdrawals

On Platinum, no FX fee is charged on an ATM withdrawal in another currency — the withdrawal converts at the Visa exchange rate, with nothing added.

The ATM operator's own fee still applies. That fee is set and charged by the operator, not by Plasma.
