In Belgium, the average difference between home charging and public charging is approximately €0.25 per kWh. This means that you can save hundreds of euros annually by charging at home.

Facts:

  • Car: 60 kWh battery and 210 km actual driving range

  • Charging at home: €0.33/kWh (CREG rate in February 2024)

  • Public charging: €0.45/kWh

  • Commuting: 45.8 km/day ( AMS 2020 figures)

Calculation:

  • Number of charges per month:

    • 45.8 km per day / 210 km driving range = 0.22 charges/day

  • Consumption per month:

    • 0.22 charges/day * 60 kWh/charge * 30 days = 403.2 kWh

  • Costs per month:

    • Home: 403.2 kWh * €0.33/kWh = €133.06

    • Public: 403.2 kWh * €0.45/kWh = €181.44

  • Savings per year:

    • €2,177.28 - €1,596.72 = €580.56

By charging at home you can save €580.56 per year on the costs of charging your electric car.

Attention:
This is a simplified calculation. There are other factors that can affect costs, such as:

  • The efficiency of the car

  • The loading time

  • The subsidies that are available
