The rate for the electricity you consume via a charging station depends on the type of charging station, the Charge Point Operator (CPO), and the Mobility Service Provider (MSP).
Type of charging stations:
Public charging stations: Here, the CPO or the owner of the charge point sets the tariff. An additional surcharge per kWh may be added on top of the actual electricity cost by the CPO, MSP, or the owner of the charge point. That’s why it’s always important to first check the applied charging rates at a specific public charging point using the app provided by your charge card provider. For Pluginvest, this is the Chargepoint App.
Private charging station as a private individual: No fees are charged by Pluginvest in this case. The additional electricity consumption through your charge point is simply added to your electricity bill, and you pay the energy rate as per your energy contract.
Private charging station as an employee/self-employed: As an employee or self-employed person, you pay for the additional electricity consumption through your charging station via your energy supplier. Pluginvest can reimburse these costs through your employer or your company based on the CREG rate. This is the average electricity rate in Belgium, adjusted quarterly.
At public charging stations, the rates are sometimes increased by the CPO, owner, and/or MSP with a margin or extra surcharge. A margin of 10% is not uncommon in the sector.
Pluginvest does not do this and applies transparent pricing without additional margins on electricity rates. This way, we aim to keep prices as low as possible for the end user to support the transition to electric mobility.
