[User] Are there any idling fees?

A quick guide to understand idling fees.

Updated over a week ago

Overview

Idle fees refer to additional charges that may apply when a vehicle remains plugged in for an extended period. Depending on the plan set by the managers, these charges may be applied based on time (e.g., hourly), usage, or as an activation fee. They are typically used to encourage users to unplug their vehicle in a timely manner and help improve charger availability.

What are idle fees?

Idle fees (or similar additional charges) may start applying once a charging session passes a certain threshold set by the manager. This threshold is based on time (e.g., after a specific duration).

After this point, the pricing may change, and additional fees can be applied—such as higher hourly rates or other usage-based charges.

In some cases, these charges may apply even if the vehicle is already fully charged but remains plugged in, as long as the charging session is still active.

Does Plugzio have idle fees?

Yes, Plugzio supports idle fees, which are built into manager-configured conditional pricing plans.

What can managers apply in their pricing plans?

Managers can apply different types of pricing, including:

  • Time-based pricing (e.g., hourly fees)

  • Usage-based pricing

  • Activation fee

  • A combination of some of the above (conditional pricing)

How to avoid additional fees

To avoid additional charges:

  • Stop your charging session before higher pricing or additional fees begin and, unplug your vehicle once you no longer need to charge

  • Monitor your session duration through the app or user dashboard, especially if the plan assigned to the charger includes time-based pricing

Here you can see that from 3:45 PM until the next day, a different fee applies (an hourly fee is added to the main rate). This hourly fee will be applied whether your car is charging or fully charged, as long as the charging session is active.
