[Troubleshoot] Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues

Updated over a week ago

If your Plugzio EV charger isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi, most connectivity issues can be resolved with a few simple checks. This guide walks you step-by-step through the process of debugging Plugzio devices, verifying network strength, and troubleshooting Wi-Fi extenders.

1. Debugging Plugzio Devices

The first thing to check is the LED light on your Plugzio device. The LED color tells you the current mode and status.

1.2. Reboot and Check Device Power

  • Ensure the breaker is turned on.

  • Try resetting the breaker.

  • Confirm the device is installed correctly and receiving power, and ensure the LED light on the device is illuminated (ask an electrician if unsure).

  • If the LED remains off, the device may be defective → please request an RMA.

2. Wi-Fi Connectivity

If the previous step does not fix the connection issue, check the Wi-Fi connection according to the steps below.

2.1. Look for the Plugzio Network

  • Stand near your Plugzio Wi-Fi extender or cellular modem with your phone.

  • Look for a network named “Plugzio-XXXX” (e.g., Plugzio-1a2b3c).

    • Extenders and modems may take 4–5 minutes to start broadcasting after power-on.

  • If using a custom Wi-Fi, look for their custom SSID instead.

  • If no network is found:

    • Client’s network missing? → This is a client IT issue.

    • Plugzio network missing? → See Section 3 (Debugging Extender/Modem).

2.2. Verify Network Strength

  • Place your phone next to the Plugzio device.

  • Check Wi-Fi signal strength:

    • 3+ bars → Strong enough for reliable operation.

    • 2 bars → Usable but may be unstable. Consider adding a Wi-Fi extender.

    • 1 bar or no network → Add or relocate an extender/modem.

  • If using a custom network, make sure your Wi-Fi has been added to the Plugzio device according to this guide.

3. Debugging the Wi-Fi Extender

If the Plugzio network isn’t showing up or seems unstable, check the WiFi extender (access point).

3.1 Verify Extender is Powered On

  • Check the LED on the right side of the extender:

    • Solid green → Extender is on.

      • If Plugzio network is visible → check internet connectivity.

      • If not visible → check installation.

    • Off or not solid green → Refer to the user manual or check installation.

3.2 Check Extender Installation

  • Ensure antennas are attached securely.

  • Confirm it’s connected to the provided power supply.

  • Test with another Ethernet cable.

  • Verify the power bar is working.

  • If still no LED, try rebooting the extender (see 3.3).

3.3 Reboot Extender

  1. Unplug the Ethernet cable.

  2. Wait a few seconds.

  3. Plug it back in.

  4. The LED should turn on.

If the extender still won’t power on, it may be defective → request an RMA.

3.4 Verify Network Internet Connectivity

Normally, Plugzio restricts access to its networks. If you need to check:

  1. Request the “Plugzio-XXXX” Wi-Fi password from Plugzio support.

  2. On your phone, turn off mobile data.

  3. Connect to the Plugzio Wi-Fi and try opening a website using your phone's browser (e.g., google.com).

  • If the internet works → The network is fine. The issue may be with signal strength or the Plugzio device itself.

  • If the internet doesn’t work → Check the internet source:

    • If using a cellular modem → debug the modem.

    • If using the client’s network → ask their IT team to check firewall/port settings.

4. Plugzio Cellular Modem

For full documentation, visit this article.

4.1 Verify Modem Power

  • Remove the 4 corner screws to access the modem.

  • Check that the LED inside (near the Ethernet port) is lit.

  • If powered on:

    • If the Plugzio network is available, proceed to check internet connectivity (Section 4.4).

    • If the Plugzio network is not available, check installation (Section 4.2).

  • If not powered on, check installation (Section 4.2).

4.2 Check Modem Installation

  • Verify antennas are connected correctly (cellular and Wi-Fi).

  • Confirm the modem is connected to the correct power supply.

  • Test with a different Ethernet cable if necessary.

  • Ensure the SIM card is inserted properly.

  • Verify the power supply is working.

4.3 Reboot the Modem

  • Unplug the Ethernet cable from the modem.

  • Wait a few seconds.

  • Reconnect the cable.

  • Confirm the LED turns back on.

  • If the modem still does not power on, it may require replacement.

4.4 Verify Internet Connectivity

  1. Request the Wi-Fi password for the Plugzio network from Plugzio technical support.

  2. Disable mobile data on your phone.

  3. Connect to the Plugzio Wi-Fi network.

  4. Try opening a webpage (e.g., google.com).

  • If the internet works → Network is functioning; issue may be with signal strength or the device.

  • If the internet does not work → SIM card or modem configuration issue.

4.5 Remote Reconfiguration

  • If the steps above fail, contact Plugzio Support for remote reconfiguration of the modem.

  • Connect the modem to a working internet source.

  • Ensure antennas are attached.

  • Provide a photo of the SIM card label and modem setup to Plugzio Support for remote assistance.
