[Troubleshoot] Cellular Connection Issues

This guide will help you diagnose and fix connectivity issues with Plugzio devices and modems.

Updated over a week ago

1. Debugging Plugzio Devices

The first thing to check is the LED light on your Plugzio device. The LED color tells you the current mode and status.

1.2. Reboot and Check Device Power

  • Ensure the breaker is turned on.

  • Try resetting the breaker.

  • Confirm the device is installed correctly and receiving power, and ensure the LED light on the device is illuminated (ask an electrician if unsure).

  • If the LED remains off, the device may be defective → please request an RMA.

2. Cellular Connectivity

2.1 Verify 4G Signal Strength

  • Use a phone at the installation site to check for LTE/4G signal (not 2G/3G/5G).

  • Place the phone close to the Plugzio device or modem.

  • Ensure at least 3 bars of LTE signal (4 is ideal).

  • If the signal is weak, consider relocating the modem or using a cellular booster.

3. Plugzio Cellular Modem

For full documentation, visit this article.

3.1 Verify Modem Power

  • Remove the 4 corner screws to access the modem.

  • Check that the LED inside (near the Ethernet port) is lit.

  • If powered on:

    • If the Plugzio network is available, proceed to check internet connectivity (Section 3.4).

    • If the Plugzio network is not available, check installation (Section 3.2).

  • If not powered on, check installation (Section 3.2).

3.2 Check Modem Installation

  • Verify antennas are connected correctly (cellular and Wi-Fi).

  • Confirm the modem is connected to the correct power supply.

  • Test with a different Ethernet cable if necessary.

  • Ensure the SIM card is inserted properly.

  • Verify the power supply is working.

3.3 Reboot the Modem

  • Unplug the Ethernet cable from the modem.

  • Wait a few seconds.

  • Reconnect the cable.

  • Confirm the LED turns back on.

  • If the modem still does not power on, it may require replacement.

3.4 Verify Internet Connectivity

  1. Request the Wi-Fi password for the Plugzio network from Plugzio technical support.

  2. Disable mobile data on your phone.

  3. Connect to the Plugzio Wi-Fi network.

  4. Try opening a webpage (e.g., google.com).

  • If the internet works → Network is functioning; issue may be with signal strength or the device.

  • If the internet does not work → SIM card or modem configuration issue.

3.5 Remote Reconfiguration

  • If the steps above fail, contact Plugzio Support for remote reconfiguration of the modem.

  • Connect the modem to a working internet source.

  • Ensure antennas are attached.

  • Provide a photo of the SIM card label and modem setup to Plugzio Support for remote assistance.

At any step, if the device or modem fails basic power or connectivity checks, contact Plugzio Support for replacement or advanced troubleshooting.
