How to Check Cellular Strength on a Cell Phone

Guidance on How to Check Cellular Signal Strength at the Installation Site Prior to Installing the Devices

If you are installing cellular-enabled chargers, please make sure to test the cellular signal strength before purchasing and installing the units. Below is our cellular testing reference table for your use.

Note: We recommend that electricians use dedicated signal testing equipment whenever possible. However, if a testing device is not available, signal strength can also be tested using a mobile phone.

For iPhone

First, ensure the phone is set to LTE (not 5G):

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Cellular

  3. Under the SIMs section, select the SIM card you would like to test

  4. Tap Voice & Data

  5. Select LTE

Then, access Field Test Mode:

  1. Open the Phone app

  2. Dial *3001#12345#*

  3. Press Call

  4. Record the following values: SINR, RSRP, and RSRQ (RSSI, if applicable)

For Android

Please install the following app:

Once installed:

  1. Grant all requested permissions

  2. Select the LTE band

  3. Tap Graphs

  4. Record the following values: RSSI, SINR/SNR, RSRP, and RSRQ

Note: If LTE connection information does not appear in NetMonster, you may need to force your Android device to LTE:

  1. Open Settings and navigate to Network & Internet (or Connections / Mobile Network, depending on your device)

  2. Tap SIMs or Mobile Network

  3. Find Preferred Network Type

  4. Select LTE Only (or 4G/3G/2G Auto if you only want to disable 5G)
