What is an online course?

Podia makes it simple to create a clean and beautiful online course your customers will enjoy.

Online courses give you the freedom to share a wide range of content. You can upload and host your videos right on Podia, and include downloadable files to support your customers’ learning.

You can also add plain text lessons or include quizzes to help your customers stay engaged and check their understanding along the way.

Creating an online course

Here's how to create new online courses on Podia:

  1. In the sidebar menu, click on Products.

  2. From the Products page, click on "+ New Product".

  3. On the product creation page select "Course" and give your product a name.

Arrow pointing to the “Course” product type option, indicating a click to select this option when creating a new product.

  4. Click on Create product to create your online course.

And that's it! Your online course has been created. Now it's time to populate it with content.

Adding content to online courses

After you create your online course, you'll need to add content to it (such as lessons, files, etc.) before you can publish it.

To add a new lesson, click on + New lesson and select the type of content you would like to add to your online course.

Dropdown menu expanded under “New lesson” showing five lesson types: Add text, Add embed, Add quiz, Add coaching, and Add files.

Here are the types of content you can add to your online course:

  • Files - Video, audio, PDFs, text files, etc.

  • Embed - Link to any external website (Note: you can even embed YouTube, Vimeo, etc. using links).

  • Quiz - Add quizzes to test your students' knowledge.

  • Add coaching - it lets people book sessions with you directly from your online course.

Creating sections/modules

As your course gets bigger, it might be interesting to organize them into sections/modules.

Sections act like modules that help you keep your course content organized.

They let you group lessons by content type, break information into smaller parts, and make it easier for your customers to follow along and learn step by step.

To add a new section, click on the + New section button.

“New section” button highlighted, indicating where to click to create a new section in your course.

Tip: You can easily drag and drop lessons into different sections—or move entire sections around—to organize your course exactly how you want.
