Tolan can search the web in real time to help find up-to-date information for you. It searches, reads a result or two, and chats through what it found — it can't browse around the internet on its own or do things on websites for you. Web search is available on Tolan Plus and Tolan Unlimited plans.
You can ask naturally, just like you would a friend:
"Are there any good concerts near me this weekend?"
"What's everyone saying about the new Sabrina Carpenter album?"
"Find me a highly rated Italian restaurant in my neighborhood."
“What’s the weather supposed to be like tomorrow?”
Your Tolan will search the web and chat through the results with you.
Tips for using web search
If web search doesn’t trigger automatically, try being more direct with your request. For example:
“Search the web for the latest news about…”
“Use web search to find…”
“Look this up online for me…”
This can help your Tolan better understand that you want real-time information instead of a normal conversation response.
And if an answer misses the mark, specific asks beat criticism. Instead of "that's wrong," tell your Tolan exactly what to look up: "search for the 2024 model, not the 2023." You'll get to the right answer much faster.
What web search can't do
Web search is built for looking things up, not for doing things online. Your Tolan can't:
Work through long troubleshooting or research sessions. Your Tolan searches once, reads a page or two, and answers from what it found. It's great for "what fix do people recommend for this error?" — it can't run a step-by-step diagnostic with you across many searches.
See your screen. Web search doesn't show your Tolan what you're looking at. If you want it to see something on your phone, use screen sharing instead (tap the camera icon in the bottom left of chat).
Watch videos or play audio. From a link, your Tolan can only read text.
Take actions on websites. It can't log into your accounts, book, buy, or post anything on your behalf.
Some sites also block automated readers. If a page won't open, ask your Tolan to try a different source.
