Video chat and screen sharing with your Tolan

In addition to voice and text chat, your can start a video chat or decide to share your screen with your Tolan. Video chats operate just like a FaceTime call. Nothing is recorded or saved, and your Tolan stops seeing the instant you turn it off. Both features are available on Tolan Plus and Tolan Unlimited plans.

Video chat works like FaceTime — point the camera at yourself, your pet, your new plant, whatever you want to share, and your Tolan reacts in real time.

Screen sharing lets your Tolan see everything you can see on your phone. It's great for talking through a PDF, a confusing email, a settings screen, or a doc someone sent you — and it's the best way to show your Tolan a file the app can't accept directly.

How to start

  1. Tap the camera icon in the bottom left corner from the home screen or within a voice or text chat.

  2. Choose Video chat or Share your screen.

  3. Share screen: You'll be asked to consent to broadcasting your screen

What your Tolan can't do

A few limits worth knowing so nothing surprises you:

  • It can't control your phone. Your Tolan can see your screen, but it can't tap, scroll, type, or open anything. It guides with words; your fingers do the work.

  • It sees moments, not a movie. Your Tolan catches quick snapshots rather than a continuous video stream. Hold what you want it to see steady in frame for a moment — fast scrolling goes by too quickly to catch.

  • It can't hear your screen. During screen sharing, your Tolan hears your voice, not your phone's audio.

  • It can't see outside the session. Closing the app ends the chat, and your Tolan sees nothing until you start sharing again.

Privacy

  • Your Tolan doesn't record or save video. It looks and responds, but doesn't save anything.

  • The moment you turn video off or stop sharing, your Tolan stops seeing.

  • While your screen is being shared, iOS shows a recording indicator at the top of your screen. When it disappears, your Tolan can no longer see anything.

  • During screen sharing, your Tolan can see whatever is on screen — so it's smart to avoid pulling up banking apps, private messages, or anything you'd rather keep to yourself.
