our conversations with your Tolan are personal, and you deserve to know exactly what happens to them. Here are answers to the privacy questions we hear most, in plain language. For the complete picture, read our full Privacy Policy — if anything here seems different from it, the full policy is the one that counts.
Who can see my conversations with my Tolan?
Your chats with your Tolan aren't public, and other users can't browse them. When you chat, we receive what you share — your voice, text, and any images you send — and it's stored on our servers so your Tolan can remember you and respond.
Behind the scenes, a few kinds of companies help make Tolan work, and they process this information for us: the AI providers that power your Tolan's responses, plus vendors that handle things like hosting, security, and IT. If you're part of a Family Cottage, other family members can see your first name, and anything you say in a shared conversation is visible to the people in it.
Do you sell my data?
We don't sell your conversations. We do share information with companies that help us run Tolan — like AI providers, hosting vendors, and analytics services such as PostHog. We also work with advertising partners who use information like device IDs and cookies to show ads for Tolan and ads that match your interests. You can limit personalized ads through your phone's ad tracking settings, the AppChoices app, or the opt-outs at optout.aboutads.info.
If you've connected Gmail or Google Calendar, that data gets extra protection: we never sell it, never use it for ads, and never use it to train general AI models.
Is my data used to train AI?
We use information about how you use Tolan to provide, improve, and personalize the app — that's how your Tolan gets better at being your Tolan. Google data is the exception: if you connect Gmail or Google Calendar, we never use that data to build or train general AI models, and no person reads it unless you clearly agree, it's needed for security, or the law requires it.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time, but please know this action is irreversible. Head to Menu > Settings > Profile > Delete account. If you can't get into the app, email support@tolans.com with your name, your Tolan's name, and a copy of your subscription invoice.
Once you ask, we take steps to delete your information. But, copies can stay in our backup systems for a limited time, and we may keep some information when the law requires it.
Where is my data stored, and how is it protected?
Tolan is hosted in the United States, so if you're using the app from another country, your information travels to the U.S. for storage and processing. We protect it with physical and electronic safeguards, though no online service can promise perfect security — that's true of any app.
