Starting February 2024, Gmail and Yahoo will begin enforcing new email authentication and deliverability standards—especially for bulk senders. These changes are aimed at reducing spam, improving email security, and protecting users from unwanted messages.

This article will walk you through what’s changing, who it affects, and how you can prepare with PredictaMail.

Who Do These Changes Affect?

Google defines a bulk sender as anyone who sends 5,000 or more emails per day to Gmail addresses.

This total includes both marketing and transactional emails from your domain.

If you send a high volume of emails—even across different campaigns or flows—these rules apply to you.

What's Required?

To comply with Gmail and Yahoo's requirements, senders must:

1. Set Up a Branded Sending Domain

Your emails must be sent from a domain you own (e.g., send.yourbrand.com), not a shared domain.

2. Implement Email Authentication (SPF, DKIM, and DMARC)

You must configure these authentication protocols via DNS:

  • SPF: Verifies that PredictaMail is authorized to send on your domain’s behalf

  • DKIM: Ensures message integrity

  • DMARC: Aligns SPF and DKIM policies to prevent spoofing

⚠️ Without proper DNS configuration, your emails may be rejected or sent to spam.

3. Maintain Low Spam Complaint Rates

Your complaint rate must stay below 0.3% to maintain inbox placement.

Why This Matters

Inbox providers like Gmail and Yahoo are tightening their filters. If you don’t meet these requirements:

  • Your emails may be delayed, flagged as spam, or rejected entirely

  • You risk long-term damage to your sender reputation

  • Critical messages like order confirmations might not be delivered
