This guide explains how to install, start up, and use the AMS1 payment terminal. It covers initial installation, network connection, available menus, and the main transaction-related features.

Installing and starting the AMS1 terminal

Installing the terminal and checking components

The AMS1 terminal package includes:

  • AMS1 payment terminal

  • USB-C cable and power adapter (depending on region)

  • Built-in eSIM card for cellular connectivity

Important: Always inspect the terminal upon receipt to ensure it has not been tampered with during shipping.

Starting the terminal for the first time

  1. Plug the terminal into a power source

  2. Hold the power button until the screen turns on

  3. Let the battery charge for at least 4 hours

  4. On the Welcome screen, select your language

  5. Connect the terminal to a Wi-Fi or cellular network

  6. Confirm the store associated with the terminal

Note: If the store confirmation screen does not appear, wait for synchronization with Adyen (up to 3 hours).


Configuring the network connection

Connecting to a Wi-Fi network

The settings passcode on the terminal is always 0856.

  1. After selecting the language, tap the next arrow

  2. On the Wi-Fi Setup screen, select +

  3. Enable WLAN

  4. Choose a Wi-Fi network or enter the SSID

  5. Enter the Wi-Fi password

  6. Select OK

A Wi-Fi icon appears at the top of the screen when the connection is established.

Tip: Wi-Fi settings can be modified later under Settings > Network > Wi-Fi (passcode required).

Using the cellular connection (eSIM)

The terminal can automatically switch to the cellular connection (3G/4G) if Wi-Fi is unavailable. The eSIM card is generally already installed and activated.

Important: For older terminals, confirm activation with support.


Turning the terminal on and off

Turning on

  • Hold the power button until the screen appears

  • Plug it in if the battery is low

Turning off

  • Hold the power button

  • Confirm the shutdown on screen

Note: On first startup or after a long period of inactivity, the terminal may perform a maintenance call (10 to 20 minutes).


Understanding the terminal menus

Settings

Some options are accessible without a passcode:

  • Device info – Terminal information

  • Diagnostics – Network tests and reports

  • Display – Display settings

Other options require an Admin/Settings passcode:

  • Apps – Applications and certificates

  • Configuration – Configuration version

  • Network – Network and airplane mode

  • Power – Terminal restart

Transactions

Payment-related actions require a Transactions passcode:

  • History – Transaction history

  • Totals – Cumulative totals

  • New transaction – Payment, refund, MOTO, manual entry

Important: Certain operations, such as refunds, require a separate Refunds passcode.


Viewing history and totals

Transaction history

Under Transactions > History, you can view all transactions recorded on the terminal.

  • Access protected by the Transactions passcode

Transaction totals

Under Transactions > Totals, you can:

  • View totals (sales, refunds, tips, cancellations)

  • Reset totals to start a new period

Pro tip: An automatic daily reset can be configured through support.


FAQ

How long does the initial terminal synchronization take? The initial synchronization with Adyen can take up to 3 hours.

Does the terminal work without Wi-Fi? Yes. It can automatically use the cellular connection (eSIM) if Wi-Fi is unavailable.
