How to Use Terminal Payments
1. Create the Task
Everything begins with a task, such as a service call involving labor charges or billable expenses.
Once the service call is completed:
An outstanding balance automatically appears on the task.
2. Automate Terminal Payments
Within your Progression account, an automation is configured to trigger a terminal payment request when the service call reaches a specific status.
Note: This automation eliminates manual actions and ensures that payment is requested at the right time.
3. Assign the Service Call to the Technician
The service call is then:
Assigned to a technician (for example, Bob)
Made available on their mobile device through Progression
The technician can then move the service call to the Pay by Terminal stage.
4. Send the Payment Request to the Terminal
When the Pay by Terminal stage is selected:
A payment request is automatically sent to the connected payment terminal.
No manual data entry is required.
5. Collect the Customer's Payment
The payment terminal:
Automatically wakes up
Is handed to the customer by the technician
The customer can then:
Insert, tap, or swipe their card
Complete the payment directly on the terminal
6. Confirm the Payment in Progression
Once the payment is completed:
The payment automatically appears in Progression
The balance is updated
The service call reflects the received payment
Important: No additional action is required from the technician or office staff.
7. Review Payment History and Tracking
Payment details are available in the service call timeline, including:
Date and time of payment
Amount collected
Payment method (terminal)
Transaction confirmation
Best Practices
Ensure the Terminal Is Ready Before the Appointment
Tip: Verify that the terminal is charged and connected before assigning the service call to the technician.
Use Clear Automation Statuses
Pro Tip: Create a dedicated status such as Pay by Terminal to make the process clear and consistent across your organization.
