Referencing Criteria - Right To Rent

What Legalforlandlords require for a right to rent check.

Updated over a year ago

Please note that our right to rent checks are preliminary and the right to rent will still need to be checked in office. If the automated right to rent check has been used, you will not need to check this in office.

Verifying an Applicant's Right To Rent

At Legal For Landlords, we are committed to verifying our customers right to rent in the UK.

With our preliminary right to rent checks. To accomplish this, we utilise a number of methods depending on customer circumstances.

Verifying Right to Rent Within the UK

For applicants who are from the UK, we complete right-to-rent checks based on a customer-provided passport, driver’s license and birth certificate or a letter from their employer saying they have confirmed their right to rent.

Verifying Right to Rent Outside the UK

For tenants who are located outside the UK, we verify their right to rent using a share code provided by the applicant. tenants can access their share code by clicking the associated link we send to them when they start referencing or by clicking the following button.

Automated right to rent

We now also offer an automated right-to-rent service which is only available to UK citizens.

This will help you save time as this means that you do not have to complete these checks in-house and can simply just use the automated right-to-rent.
