Introduction

This guide will walk you through the process of grading quizzes in Proserva, covering both the instructor’s configuration options and the student’s experience. Proserva offers flexible grading settings, including automation features linked to rubrics, to streamline the grading process for quizzes.

Part 1: Instructor Configuration

1. Accessing Your Course:

• Start by logging into Proserva and navigating to My Courses and Workshops.

• Find the course or program you wish to manage and click on it to access the course content.

• If you haven’t created a quiz yet, click on Add Content and select Quiz and Survey to start building your quiz.

2. Creating and Configuring a Quiz:

• In the Quiz Builder, you can add a title and a variety of question types, such as multiple-choice, open-ended, and more.

• To set a correct answer, select the correct option for each question and assign a weight to it (e.g., 1 point per question).

• If you want students to see which questions they got right or wrong after completing the quiz, make sure to check the Show Question Results After Completion option.

3. Grading Options:

Ungraded: This option allows you to mark questions as correct or incorrect without assigning a grade.

Track Completion:

Pass/Fail: After reviewing the student’s answers, the instructor can manually mark the quiz as pass or fail.

Self-Reported Completion: The student marks the quiz as complete, which is then reflected in the grade book.

Graded: You can set a manual return for long-answer questions or allow the system to automatically grade multiple-choice questions. You can also set a minimum passing score.

4. Adding Rubrics:

• Rubrics can be added to quizzes to automate scoring based on specific competencies. For example, if a student passes, the rubric can automatically mark them as proficient in certain areas.

• Rubric categories can be auto-scored when a student marks a quiz as complete, simplifying the grading process.

5. Additional Settings:

• You can allow multiple quiz attempts, set due dates, and adjust the weight of each quiz in relation to the overall course.

• Use the Unlocking Function to control when certain quizzes become available based on the completion of previous lessons.

Part 2: Student Experience

1. Taking a Quiz:

• Students access the quiz through their course interface, answer the questions, and then click Complete.

• If multiple attempts are allowed, they can retry the quiz. Depending on the settings, students may be able to view their results immediately after completing the quiz.

2. Viewing Results:

• Students can see which questions they got correct or incorrect, and if a rubric was used, they can view detailed feedback.

• For graded quizzes, students can see their scores and any comments left by the instructor.

Part 3: Instructor Grading Process

1. Using the Grade Book:

• After a student submits a quiz, you can access it through the Grade Book to review and mark it as pass or fail.

• For quizzes with automated scoring, Proserva will handle most of the grading, but you can manually override scores if necessary.

2. Returning Grades to Students:

• Once you have graded a quiz, you must hit Return to send the grades and feedback back to the student.

• For quizzes with rubrics, you can assign values to each rubric category before returning the quiz.
