When a release is sent to music platforms like Spotify or Apple Music, label managers can configure that release to be one of several "Types", for example:

  • Single

  • EP

  • Mini-Album (Apple Only)

  • Album

  • Compilation

Label managers can configure the "Type" in the "Details & Settings" area, like this:

Label Managers who have already scheduled a release can still make changes to the "Type" by using Proton's helpful "Edit/Fix" feature, learn about that here!

What about the "Mini-Album" type for Apple?
The "Mini Album" release type is currently only supported by Apple Music and the iTunes Download Store. When "Mini Album" is selected, Proton automatically converts this to "EP" for other platforms like Spotify.

Important: Release Types are not supported on Beatport and other DJ platforms like Juno and TraxSource.

If you do not set a Release Type, Proton will configure this for you automatically.

Spotify Countdown does NOT support releases configured as a Single.
By default, a 2 track release on Proton will be configured as a single due to style guide requirements on Spotify and Apple.

Label Managers can manually change this to "EP" in order to get Spotify Countdown to work, as long as you meet all requirements.
