What is a Boolean?
Boolean expressions are the blueprint for all your TRAC searches!
These types of expressions produce either a true or false value; in terms of TRAC, this means that content either match the terms of your query and is pulled into your Results, or does not match and is not collected by your search.
When setting up a search, you'll have the choice to use the Wizard or the Boolean option. While the Wizard can streamline the search setup process, choosing the Boolean option allows you to further expand and edit your expression.

When using Boolean Expressions in TRAC it is important to understand that the expressions are NOT case sensitive and there is no need to capitalize.
We have a 5000 character limit imposed by our partners when submitting queries to them, which means your Boolean expression has to operate within these limits.
Recommended Use Cases
Boolean expressions open up a range of customizable search options that allow you to craft the exact query to best fit your needs.
You are able to search for multiple terms and set rules for their inclusion or exclusion in the query, specify what words can come before or after the terminology being searched, use variations of the keyword and so much more! Here are just a few examples of searches best suited for the Boolean search setup option. Keep in mind that this list is not all-encompassing as each team has its own unique use case and workflow
