Learning Outcomes

  • You will understand the concept of using the Target section of the filter within your TRAC searches.

Using the Target as a filter is an incredibly handy method for segmenting your data. This allows you to scrutinise your searches through various perspectives, such as types of posts, media categories, sentiment, data sources, and a whole lot more!

Post Type

Post Type allows you to filter the content in your search based on whether it is a post or an engagement. Posts are original content, whereas engagements are content that are reactions. Examples of this for X would include Retweets, Quote tweets and Replies.

Media Type

Media Type allows you to filter your dataset based on the type of media of that post. These include: Text only, images, videos, posts that contain links.

Sentiment

Filtering by Sentiment allows you to analyse your search through the lens of the nature of conversation. This is divided into positive, neutral, and negative.

Data Sources

The Data Sources section of the filter allows you to focus your dataset based on a particular channel. We've made this easier for you by categorising the channels in your dataset based on whether they're News, Social, or Other.

Domains

Domains looks into particular URLs. This is particularly useful if there is a certain channel that you want to look into, particularly for Online News publications and forums.

Tags

If you have created any custom tags within your search, you will be able to filter based on them from this section of the Target.
