Learning Outcomes

  • You will understand the concept of using the Target section of the filter within your TRAC searches.

Using the Target filters is an incredibly handy method for segmenting your data. This allows you to isolate the data in your searches by using specific filters that only focus on specific parameters such as the type of posts, media, sentiment, data sources, etc. that you want to analyse.

Post Type

The Post Type filter allows you to filter for content in your search based on whether it is a post or an engagement. Posts are original content, whereas engagements are content that are in response to the original posts. Examples of this for X would include Retweets, Quote tweets and Replies.

Media Type

The Media Type filter allows you to filter your dataset based on the type of media contained in the content. The options to choose from are: text only, images, videos, and links.

Sentiment

Filtering by Sentiment allows you to isolate your search results for content that only match a specific sentiment criteria. This is divided into positive, neutral, and negative.

Data Sources

The Data Sources filter allows you to isolate your results and focus only on content from a specific channel. The data sources are divided into the following 3 categories, News, Social, or Other, making it easy to quickly identify the channels that matter the most to you.

Domains

The Domains filter allows you to isolate news, forums, blogs and reviews content that comes from specific websites. You can use this to either focus your results on those sites, or to exclude content from those sites from showing up in your results.

Tags

If you have created any custom tags within your search, you will be able to filter based on them from this section of the Target.
