What is MFA?

You're likely familiar with the simple process of logging into an account using a username and a password. However, with the growing sophistication of cyber threats, this method alone often isn't enough to ensure your online security. This is where Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) comes into play. MFA is an authentication process that requires the user to verify their identity through multiple verification methods. These factors could include something you know (like a password), something you have (like a physical token or a smartphone), and something you are (like a fingerprint or other biometric verification).

What is 2FA?

2FA is a subset of MFA. It means that instead of relying on just one additional verification method, you use precisely two methods to prove your identity. A common example you might encounter is when you log into a platform and then receive a text message with a verification code. Entering this code along with your password means you're using two distinct verification methods, thus employing 2FA. This added layer of security makes it significantly more challenging for unauthorised individuals to access your account.
