What's New on TRAC

Pulsar has always given users the options to create a search via a simplified Wizard or use Boolean and in the past year we’ve made some significant enhancements to the Boolean option, and less so on the Wizard. Today we are happy to share some new additions that we’ve made to the Wizard option for setting up searches and we hope you find creating searches with the wizard even simpler than before. Let’s talk about some of the changes you can expect to see.

Upload wizard query terms using a CSV

We’ve added the option to upload wizard terms instantly using a csv uploader. In any field you would have the option to insert individual terms, you can now use the csv upload button to upload a csv file full of terms and have them appear as wizard terms for your search. The formatting uses rows as ANDs and columns as ORs, so what you’re looking for should be as clear as how you fill it in. And thanks to the speed of the tool, it’s easy to just go down the line of boxes and upload all of your terms quickly, including exclusion terms!

Editing Your Search Terms

Sometimes you misspell a word, or maybe you realized that you actually wanted to add jelly in conjunction with your search for “peanut butter”. Term editing means every term you enter now has the option to be edited, whether right away or when you come back to a search later.

Hidden Fields

Sometimes you’ve got a search full of boxes and you’re not sure what to put there: and in some of these cases, there’s nothing to put there unless you’ve already filled out another area! In order to help smooth the flow and format of search setup, we’ve hidden several input fields such that they won’t appear unless you have completed other required fields first. You’ll notice this in our Panels searches when you’re adding author bios to search for on X, or on the Target page when specifying a country.

Copying Terms Across Fields

If you’ve ever used the wizard you may have dealt with multiple text boxes for input. With term copying, you can quickly copy your terms from one box to another! This allows you to still keep what you look for on different platforms versatile, while also reducing the workload if you’re trying to look for the same terms everywhere!

Reformatting Panel Searches

It’s always good to perform some housekeeping on pages, especially when it’s to ensure a smooth flow from page to page. That’s why we’ve reorganized our Panel Searches Setup page to more accurately reflect the different forms of socials and news you can track. The goal of the layout is to help better present what content can be tracked in panel form while keeping the simple wizard layout intact.

These updates are just some of the work we're putting in to making search Creation a more pleasant and expedient experience. In the future we hope to add even more updates to both the wizard and the Boolean to improve search setup, so if you have any ideas, reach out to us via chat!
