📦 1. Kit Components (Save All Items for Packing and Shipping)
Ensure all kit components are present and retained for use:
Return shipping box with pre-paid UPS shipping label
Instructions packet (includes manifest forms and yellow checklist)
Clear plastic bag for non-controlled medications
Tamper-evident opaque bags for DEA controlled substances
Security seal tape
📖 2. Unpacking and Preparation
Keep the return box and all included components.
Refer to the yellow sheet for a quick checklist based on whether you're returning DEA Controlled Substances or Non-DEA waste.
📝 3. Returns Manifest Preparation
a. Non-Controlled Medications
Use the included returns manifest from the packet.
Log into the RP Returns portal: https://portal.rpreturns.com/Index.aspx
Inventory the items online.
Fill out, sign, and include a copy of the manifest in the return box.
b. Schedule III-V DEA Controlled Substances
Complete the paper manifest and also:
Log into the RP Returns Portal.
Select “New DEA Return” and fill out the DEA Form 41:
Add drug name, NDC number, number of full and partial packages.
Print two copies:
One goes into the return box
Keep one for your records
c. Schedule II DEA Controlled Substances
Do not ship until you receive the DEA Form 222 (sent by mail).
Once received:
Fill out Part 4 (Number Shipped and Date Shipped)
Include Schedule Drug Inventory Form inside the box (NOT the DEA 222)
DEA 222 form must match your DEA registration address
Email a copy to: dea.orderforms@usdoj.gov
Retain original DEA 222 for your records
⏰ Note:
The DEA 222 Form is valid for 60 days only.
📦 4. Packaging of Pharmaceuticals
No loose pills or sharps
Use original containers if available; otherwise, use sealable plastic bags
Liquids should be wrapped to prevent breakage and placed in separate bags
Place Medications as Follows:
Non-Controlled: Clear plastic bag
Controlled Substances: Tamper-evident opaque bag
Insert the signed manifest in the return box.
🔐 5. Sealing the Box
Ensure no loose contents
Close the box and apply the security seal (shows “opened” message if tampered with)
🚚 6. Shipment
Hand the sealed box to a UPS driver or drop it at a UPS drop-off location.
All shipping and processing charges are prepaid.
📄 7. Post-Submission Access
After RP Returns receives and processes your shipment:
Log into the portal to retrieve:
Certificate of Destruction
Any customer-specific documentation
