Why connect a service account to Slack?

Connecting a service account to Slack will make it possible for you to set up an additional Slack sender in Pyn to send from an alias like L&D or HROps. There are a few technical tasks that need to be configured before being able to add this custom Sender.

  1. Be sure that your IT team is able to create additional service accounts in Slack.

  2. Confirm that the service account the IT team creates will also create a user that will be able to authenticate into Pyn via SSO or Google. This is required to activate the seat in Pyn.

  3. The person setting up the service alias has access to login to both Pyn and the Slack instance.

⚠️ Before you proceed, please be sure to confirm that your Slack Workspace is connected with Pyn. For instructions on how to connect Pyn to your company's Slack workspace, see Connect to Slack.

How it's done

Once your IT team has confirmed that a Slack and SSO or Google account has been set up for the new service alias follow these instructions to get started.

  1. In Pyn, you will need to first invite the service alias to Pyn under Settings > Users > Add.

  2. Log out of Pyn. You will need to ensure that your email address will not be used to sign in during the next step.

  3. Login to Pyn with the service alias with SSO or Google. This will activate the seat in Pyn.

  4. Create a draft message, then click on the Sender to see the dropdown list and select the Connect your Slack account option.

  5. Confirm the authentication by clicking Allow after reviewing the request page.

  6. To check that the service alias has been successfully connected, click the Sender dropdown and select the service account name with the Slack logo in front.

Sharing Access

When creating a service alias you may want to invite other team members to access the sender. This can be done by going to Settings > Senders > Add.

A: In the top right hand corner of the Slack connection there is an ellipses "..." menu. Select this and choose the re-authenticate option.
