The plug-in telematics device is a small box that plugs into your car. It uses telematics (or black box) technology to collect data on how you drive.

You get a small device through the post within a few days of your policy starting. It plugs into a port in your car called the Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) port, which is what a mechanic uses to run diagnostic testing.

The device then collects data on things like speed and how smoothly you drive. At renewal, you’ll get a discount if you’ve driven well.

The plug-in device is from Ticker (manufactured by Trakm8), one of the foremost telematics specialists in the UK. It's included in the cost of your policy and it comes through the letterbox, so you don't need to worry about being home for it.
