How do I take notes while I'm on a call?

While you are in a dialer session, the contact's profile is on screen. You take notes right there, in the note box under the contact's information. You can type while the call is ringing, while you are talking, and after you hang up. Your note is saved together with the call outcome when you save the interaction.

Where the note box is

When you are in a dialer session, the current contact's profile fills the screen. Below the contact's name and details there is a row of tabs:

  • New Note

  • Text

  • Email

New Note is selected by default. Under it is a text box with the placeholder Add your note... This is where you type your notes for the call.

Take a note during the call

  1. Make sure the New Note tab is selected.

  2. Click into the box that says Add your note... and start typing.

  3. Type whatever you want to record about the conversation. The box grows as you type, so long notes are fine.

You do not have to wait until the call ends. You can type at any point during the call.

Pick a call outcome

Above the note box is a row of outcome buttons. Click one to record how the call went. The options are:

  • No Answer

  • Answered

  • Wrong / Disconnected

  • Refused

  • Call Back

  • Left Voicemail

  • Deceased

  • Do Not Contact

Click a button to select it. A checkmark appears on the selected outcome. Click it again to clear it. You can save a note with no outcome, an outcome with no note, or both together.

When a session is set to advance automatically to the next contact, the Left Voicemail button is not shown.

Record a pledge with the note

To the side of the note box is a pledge area labeled Pledge:. If the contact commits to give, type the pledge amount in the dollar box, use the Hard / Soft switch to set the pledge type, and pick a Due date. The pledge is saved along with your note and outcome when you save the interaction.

Save the note

When you are ready to save:

  • Click the Save Interaction button, or

  • Press Cmd + Enter (on a Mac) while your cursor is in the note area.

You must enter at least one of the following to save: a note, a call outcome, or a pledge. If all three are empty, you will see the message: "You must enter a note, disposition, or pledge to save a new interaction."

Once saved, the note clears and the interaction appears in the contact's history under the Notes & Calls tab.

Your note is protected if you navigate away

If you have typed a note but have not saved it yet, the app warns you before you leave so you do not lose your work:

  • If you try to move to the next or previous contact, you will be asked: "You have an unsaved note. Are you sure you want to leave?"

  • If you try to close or reload the browser tab, your browser will ask you to confirm before leaving.

Your in-progress note is also kept on your own device as a draft. If the page reloads while you are still on the same contact, the text you had typed comes back.

When you must log a connected call before moving on

Once a call connects, you must log it before you can move to the next contact. While that is the case, the next and previous buttons stay disabled until you save the interaction. Type your note, pick an outcome if you have one, and click Save Interaction to continue down the list. When the call ends, this requirement clears.

Taking notes outside a dialer session

You can also add a note from any contact's profile when you are not in a dialer session. Open the contact, use the New Note tab, type your note, and click Save Interaction. If the contact has more than one phone number and you choose a call outcome, you will be asked "Which phone number did you call?" so the call is logged against the right number. You can also choose No associated phone number.
