How do I record an in-kind donation?

The short answer

Raise More does not have a dedicated "in-kind" donation type. The donation form does not ask you to pick a payment method or gift type. Every donation is recorded with the same fields: a contact, an amount, a date, and a few optional reference fields.

To track an in-kind gift, record it as a normal donation and apply a Donation Source tag to mark it as in-kind. This lets you find and report on your in-kind gifts later by filtering on that tag.

Before you start: create a Donation Source tag

Tags on donations come from a separate list of Donation Source tags. You must create the tag before you can apply it to a donation.

  1. Go to the Donations page and open the Donation Tags section.

  2. Click Create Donation Tag.

  3. Name the tag something like "In-Kind" and save it.

You only need to do this once. After the tag exists, you can apply it to any donation.

Add the donation

You can add a donation from a person's profile or from the Donations page.

From a person's profile:

  1. Open the contact's profile.

  2. Find the donation section and click the plus (+) icon next to it.

  3. The Add Donation window opens.

From the Donations page:

  1. Click the New donation button in the top right.

  2. The Add Donation window opens.

In the Add Donation window:

  1. Confirm the Contact field shows the right person, or search for the contact by name.

  2. Enter the value of the gift in the Amount (USD) field. For an in-kind donation, enter the fair-market value of the goods or services.

  3. Set the Date.

  4. Leave the optional fields (Receipt ID, Reference Code, Fundraising Page, Line Item ID, Donor Email, Donor Phone) blank unless you have values for them.

Mark it as in-kind with a tag

The Add Donation window has a Tags section at the bottom.

  1. In the Tags section, select the "In-Kind" tag you created earlier.

  2. You can select more than one tag if you want to capture extra detail, such as what the gift was.

The tag is what records that this donation was in-kind, since there is no separate field for it. Use the same tag every time so your in-kind gifts stay grouped together.

Save

Click Add Donation to save. The gift appears in the contact's donation history and in your Donations list with the in-kind tag attached.

Find your in-kind donations later

On the Donations page, open the filter panel and filter by the Donation Source field. Select your "In-Kind" tag to see the full list of in-kind gifts and their values.

What is not available

  • There is no "in-kind" checkbox or donation-type dropdown.

  • There is no payment-method field. Cash, check, in-kind, and similar types are not selectable options on the donation form.

  • The donation amount is a single dollar value. For an in-kind gift, that value is the fair-market value you assign.

If you need in-kind reporting for a compliance filing, keep your own record of what the gift was and confirm requirements with your compliance vendor or treasurer. The tag approach above is for tracking and filtering inside Raise More, not a substitute for formal disclosure formatting.
