How do I record an employer match donation?

Raise More does not have a dedicated employer match donation type. There is no "match" or "matching gift" field on the donation form, and no built-in link between an original gift and its match. You record the match as a regular donation and use a donation tag to label it so you can filter and report on matches later.

What the donation form has

The Add Donation form has these fields:

  • Contact

  • Amount (USD)

  • Date

  • Receipt ID

  • Reference Code

  • Fundraising Page

  • Line Item ID

  • Donor Email

  • Donor Phone

  • Tags

There is no employer, match, or donation type field. Use Tags to label a gift as an employer match.

Step 1: Create a donation tag for employer matches

Do this once, then reuse the tag for every match you record.

  1. In the left nav, go to Donations, then click Donation Tags.

  2. Click Create Donation Tag.

  3. In the text field, type a name such as Employer Match.

  4. Click Create.

To create a sub-tag for a specific company program, click the plus icon on an existing tag. The modal title will say Create New Child Tag for [tag name]. Fill in the name and click Create.

Step 2: Record the match as a donation

Decide which contact the match should live on. Most campaigns put it on the original donor's record so all of that person's giving appears together. You can also put it on the employer if you track companies as contacts.

From the contact's profile:

  1. Open the contact's profile.

  2. Scroll to the Donations section.

  3. Click the plus icon next to Donations. The Add Donation window opens.

  4. The Contact field is pre-filled. Change it if needed.

  5. Enter the match amount in Amount (USD).

  6. Set the Date the match was received.

  7. In Tags, select your employer match tag.

  8. If you have them, fill in Receipt ID, Reference Code, or other

optional fields.

  1. Click Add Donation.

You can also open the Donations page and click New donation in the top right to add a donation without starting from a contact profile.

Step 3: Record the employer name

The form has no employer name field. Use Reference Code for a short note such as Match: Acme Corp - original gift 5/3.

Linking a match to the original donation

Raise More does not automatically link a match to the original gift. The practical ways to connect them:

  • Put both gifts on the same contact so they appear together in that contact's

Donations list.

  • Tag both with the employer match tag so a filter pulls them up together.

  • Use Reference Code to note which gift the match corresponds to.

Finding employer matches later

  1. Open the Donations page.

  2. Use the filter builder. Add a filter on Donation Source and select your

employer match tag.

  1. The table shows every donation carrying that tag.

The table shows a running total at the bottom of the page. Click that total to switch it between sum, average, minimum, and maximum.

Importing many matches at once

If a matching-gift program sends you a file, import it through the donations import. Map your file columns to the available donation fields. After importing, apply your employer match tag to the imported donations so they group with the rest.
