How do I see how many people are on a list?

Open the list

Go to Lists and click the name of any list. The list opens in a table view. Directly above the rows, a count appears in the format X records (for example, "1,247 records"). This number updates automatically as you add or change filters.

Why the count may say "Preview count" instead

On accounts with very large databases, the contact table shows a Preview count link instead of displaying the count automatically. Click that link to run the count query. A timer shows while it runs; click the X next to the timer if you want to cancel. Once finished, the result appears as X records in the same spot.

Dynamic lists: the count can change

A dynamic list re-runs its saved filter against your live contacts every time you open it. If contacts are added, removed, or their data changes in a way that affects the filter, the count changes too. The count shown is always the count right now, not the count at the time you saved the list.

Static lists: the count is fixed at creation

A static list captures a snapshot of matching contacts when the list is first created. The count shown is the number of contacts in that snapshot. Contacts added to your database later are not included unless you manually add them to the list.

Sharing and visibility

If a list is set to private and you do not have access to it, it does not appear in your Lists view and you cannot see its count. If you expect to see a list that a teammate created, ask them to share it with you or change its visibility to the full organization.
